Digipack

Digipacks

Digipacks are a type of CD packaging made out of card stock or other heavy paper/cardboard material. Digipacks can flip open like a book, or it can have three parts, so that one portion of the packaging opens to the right and one to the left, with the CD in the center. It covers the album or single cover so it does not look plain and artists have a choice on what to put on there.

Here is the old digipacks which this album was done in the 2000's, this is very different from the digipacks and album covers that are from today because the old digipacks mostly just have the artist on the background with the name of the album, it was very simple due to the technology being not that advanced and they did not have that much money as the artists of the present.  Tupac is posing in a way which it seems like he is thinking, this album has mainly the soul music and doesn't focus on the "gangsta"side of him and this is portrayed by the image and album cover as it is not your usual "gangster" digipack.

This is the same album cover as the 2pac one as it contains the artist being Ice Cube and what ice cube has mostly in his music videos being old school american muscle cars. He is posing like 2pac in his album cover to portray him being a "gangster" as this is what he wants people to think.

This album cover is very recent in 2013 and is done by the artist "The Game" which you can see by the top of the album cover. The album is called "Jesus peice" and this is the opposite of the other two as it doesn't contain the artist and includes a picture of what seems to see jesus with red on as this is the colour of the artists gang being the "bloods" and also jesus is wearing a "jesus peice" so this goes with the album title also. I believe the artist done this as he made a song called "jesus piece" and it was highly viewed and successful so he decided to name is the album title.

Comparison Mr Miche

The 1975 is an indie group who are leaning more to the rock side of the industry. From a first glance of a still image of the video and the name of the song being "Robbers" we assume the songs about robbers doing something. But after watching the video and listening to the lyrics i understand that it is not about robbers and more that robbers is a distraction and is a metaphor for the relationship and love between the male and female protagonist. The video does still involve robbers and them robbing things but mainly shows the buildup and aftermath of doing this, like a relationship.

Editing

Many random scenes put together to produce a fast video that makes sense and starts at the end of the video and works it way forward from then. Including flashbacks and scenes filmed at different locations put together to go with the lyrics of the song. Seems very basic and an indie video that is not "mainstream" and include other special effects like other videos. Loads of intercutting.

Camera

Camera is always focused on them two and mainly a two shot including them both to show their relationship and love. Long shots in a desert to show how alone they are and close ups to show when she is angry and when he gets shot (to show the pain)

Sound

The lyrics display in the video but the two don't sing in it like other videos just the music playing in the background while filming the female and male protagonist. You think the song ends when the male goes into to the shop to rob but after the gunshot the song carries on for one more verse (engaging the audience)

Mise en scene

Plain video no filters or effects. Filmed in an indie way so is not seen as mainstream, The clothes are very indie like and include tight trousers ripped up trousers and shirts and includes a lot off smoking to show they are sort of rock and roll and includes many scenes of sex and kissing like a rock video.Mostly dark light throughout the video with minimal lighting. when they were in that hut it was dark only small amount of light from the window showing they are very alone.

This video is different compared to the robbers but also similar, it has two protagonist that we believe are in love but this is a very mainstream video that includes special effects but not as much as other videos like katy perrys. The two protagonist going out to different places to explore and they are very much in love as we can see them making love and doing activities, the video is very fast paced and includes many inter-cutting like the robbers video.

Wiz Khalifa - We Dem Boyz Music Video

Camera
  • switches from many long shots to close up, the main shot is the medium shot so it can include most of the people in the music videos.
Mise- en- scene
  • Party theme, all singing along to the song, drinking and smoking weed (normal american rap stereotype)
Editing
  • Cuts from different parts of the party. lighting from outside
Sound
  •  lip syncing from the rapper (wiz khalifa)

I have learnt from this that most rap music videos are done with the music and both are thought of at the same time, i watched a documentary that said rappers think of a song that will have a good music video and that they can perform on stage. This is what i have to think about when my friend (Kameron) is making a beat and song, it cant be a song that will have no ideas for a music video and one that you wont be able to perform. most rap songs are upbeat like this and have a catchy line "we them boyz", but rap can be emotional like some of 2pacs song, which was classed as real rap.

Childish Gambino - 3005 music videos

Camera
  • The camera is following Gambino as he Ferris wheel
  • close up throughout

Mise- en- scene
  • Him singing while looking at camera, doesn't go with music but still looks appropriate

Editing
  • Not much lighting used, just a camera placed on his ferris wheel going around
Sound
  •  lip syncs throughout the entire video

Kayne west - Stronger

Camera
  • close up of Kayne dancing
  • Always long and mid shots throughout to show clothes and him moving

Mise- en- scene
  • Kayne moving in a party motive
  • background image moving
Editing
  • quick cutting to show different periods of time
  • Moving with the camera
  • A lot of editing is done to show quick cutting
  • paralel editing
  • Green Screen
Sound
  •  lip syncs throughout the entire video
